Moms of Carbon County (MOCC) continues to highlight and celebrate our empowering and inspiring Mombers each month. For the month of August, we honor, and get to know, Samantha (Sammy) Frank. A mother, step-mother, angel baby mother, photographer/owner of Sammy Catherine Photography and a hula-hoop boss. Her intoxicatingly positive personality, craft, talents and love for life are reflected in her social media posts and breath taking photographs. Let’s take a moment to get to know Sammy a little more….
What is your full name and where do you live? Hi there! My name is Samantha (Sammy) Frank and I live in Lehighton.
How many children do you have, and what are their ages? I have a one and a half year old son and a (almost) 17 year old young lady who stays with us. I also have two furbabies (a pit mix and a chow mix) as well as three fish. Up in heaven I have two angel babies.
What is the hardest part about being a mother/grandmother? I think the hardest part about being a mom is making sure that you don’t lose yourself. A mom is a giant portion of who I am and it takes priority but I am plenty of other things too and I like to find time to remind myself of that. The hardest part with the teenager is the attitude! 😂
Which one of your children / grandchildren do you think is most like you? Oddly enough, the teenager is not actually related (to me) but we are definitely one in the same! My baby boy has my love for animals and eating.
What did you want to do with your life prior to children? Before having children I honestly wanted to be where I am right now. I always wanted to be a mom, for as long as I can remember! And I still make time for my art so I’m happy!
Did your goals/accomplishments change after you had children? My goals haven’t really changed other than to be more centered around my little man.
If you had it to do over again, what would you change? I’m not sure that I would really change anything. I am very happy with how my mom life is going.
Is there something you wish you were better at doing? I do wish I was a little better with my energy levels! I have a hard time keeping up with this little munchkin.
What three words best describe you? Three words to describe myself… creative, passionate, hippie.
What’s your least favorite household chore? My least favorite chore is definitely dishes.
What is your spirit animal? I always say that my spirit animal is this super snarky poet named Charles Bukowski, does that count? 😂
Do you have any hobbies or talents you would like to share? My non- baby related hobbies include yoga (not frequently enough!), hoop dance, and photography.
What charities/community outreach/nonprofits are you passionate about? As for charities, I am pretty down to help wherever I can. There is a dog rescue called Eleventh Hour where we adopted one of our pups that I am very adamant about. They rescue dogs from kill shelters who are on their last hours and they re-home them. I think they’re wonderful.
Tell us one of your funniest stories of motherhood. One of my funniest motherhood stories…I’m not even sure! My son is such a good boy, he cracks me up all day long. My favorite stories from moms are the real ones where they admit that we are definitely not all perfect! When my little one was maybe 8 months old, he was in his Walker on the deck while I cleaned up the yard. I came back up and his whole face and hands where covered in dirt from the potted plant. He found a new favorite snack while I was in the yard!
Why did you join Moms of Carbon County (MOCC)? I joined MOCC as a place to try to arrange play dates for my little man but I have since learned that I am here for way more. This is such a great community of woman to talk to and share stories with. It makes motherhood feel so much less lonely! I love this community of strong mommas.
